Terry's Travels with Smokey . . .
9/1, Day 1
Itinerary: Drive from home in Bellingham, WA to Vancouver (B.C.) International Airport. Flight to London, England, Heathrow Airport.
Highlight: The realization that it was all beginning-Smokey and I were on our way!
9/2, Day 2
Itinerary: Bus from Heathrow Airport to the Thornhill Park and Ride bus stop outside of Oxford. Drive to Freeland.
Highlights: Meeting up with dear friends Rosie and Colin, catching up with each others’ news, having a great home cooked meal.
9/3,Day 3
Itinerary: Walk around Freeland countryside. Drive to Cogges Manor Farm and the village of Bampton (filming sights for Downton Abbey).
Highlights: Enjoying the Cotswolds coutryside, pretending to be on a famous TV show.
9/4, Day 4
Itinerary: Freeland and Oxford
Highlights: Walking tour of Oxford, braving the climb up the
University Church bell tower (if only I had known how many bell towers
I would be climbing in the next month!), Harry Potter film sights.
9/5, Day 5,
Itinerary: Oxford and surrounding countryside
Highlights: More Harry Potter film sights, plucking a rugby ball out of the Thames, walking the Thames towpath.
9/6, Day 6
Itinerary: Freeland, Drive to Oxford. Bus to London, Gatwick Airport. Flight to Salzburg, Austria
Highlights: Getting on the wrong bus from the airport into Salzburg in the pouring rain, being dropped off blocks from a bus stop, and being given a ride by travel “angel” Gerte, 87, right to my hotel! Delightful walking tour of Salzburg in the afternoon sunshine with my Rick Steves’ audio guide.
